Unique, experiential food & farm tours at Hartshorn Organic Farm

Guided, memorable, behind the scenes, hands on, food and farm tour/inspiring workshop experiences on our authentic, working, certified organic farm in the Mad River Valley of Vermont for foodies, nature lovers, gardeners, and healthy lifestyle seekers.

You’ll taste your way through the fields, sampling vegetables and herbs that are ripe, as well as check out my backyard gardens filled with herbs, flowers and veggies, see a homeowner size hydroponic system—and the commercial year-round hydroponic greenhouses that my partner, Dave, started with 2 other guys.

While spending time in nature on our certified organic regenerative farm, you'll leave inspired, educated and transformed.

Reconnect with nature, have fun, and learn healthy food growing through a hands-on experience. You may walk away wanting to start a garden and change your eating habits.
The 90-minute (sometimes 120-minute) tours are offered with and without a homemade farm to table lunch.

You'll be guided by me, Amy Todisco. I’m also a nationally recognized green living expert/mentor, podcast host, and retreat leader.

What you’ll get on the tour:

Certified Organic Farm. Pluck a pea off the vine as you learn about organic agriculture and the history of Hartshorn Farm, where I live. Taste some fresh kale and chard. Dig a carrot. Find out what some of the weeds beneath your feet can help with. Pop a sweet cherry tomato into your mouth. Pick some blueberries. Put your hands in the warm soil and plant something. We will enjoy a homemade mostly organic and hydroponic greens filled vegetarian lunch (if you choose the tour with lunch.)

Maple Sugar House. Amy’s organic farmer life partner, Dave, is also a fifth-generation sugar maker.
Check out the maple sugarhouse. Find out how maple syrup was discovered and how the Hartshorn Family has evolved their maple sugar making process over the years. Taste a sample.

Hydroponic Growing. You will visit the 1/2-acre awe-inspiring commercial hydroponic greenhouse, and I’ll tell the story of 10 years’ experience with Green Mountain Harvest Hydroponic (GMH) a commercial greenhouse/ You’ll learn how it’s the farming of the future. We also have a homeowner sized system in order to showcase this wonderful technology. You can watch a video of the large-scale production here. Dave has since sold his shares to that business.

Healing Garden. You too can create your own beautiful and productive veggie, herb and flower garden.
Check out my healing garden for inspiration.
See which medicinal and culinary herbs are growing among the veggies and flowers and what they can do for you.
Discover what else might also be growing in your yard that you can use to heal.

Each tour is customized to meet the needs and interests of the group that shows up, which means each tour/workshop will be slightly different. While the tours are designed for teens and adults, we are kid friendly for children with a decent attention span.

Tours are by reservation only.

Contact me (Amy) to set one up for your group and your time frame. Weekdays are preferred, if possible.

Please be aware that tour dates are somewhat limited as I also run the farm stand, retreats, educational programs, and podcasts during the summer. There are no tours on Sundays (it’s our one day off each week when there’s not a program.)

If you don’t have the minimum number of adults, it’s sometimes possible to be added to an already booked group’s tour.
Just let me know if that’s your preference.

Tours are offered with or without a fresh, homemade farm to table lunch.

Please note:

Tours with lunch require a 3 adult person minimum or it’s a flat rate.
The 2024 season price is 100/person or a flat rate of 300 for less than 3 adults.

Children 4-8 are 50, ages 3 and under are free.

I’m Amy Todisco, the creator and tour operator of the Vermont Food and Farm Tours at Hartshorn Farm.

I grew up in New York City…but it was my dream to live on an organic farm in Vermont.
After college, I stayed in Massachusetts for a bunch of years. It’s where I began my green living career, AND grew food in pots on a sunny windowsill, deck, and finally in the ground.

In 2001 I finally moved to Vermont.
In 2009, I met my soulmate and organic farmer, Dave Hartshorn.

Over the past 15 years, we’ve been building the farm business together and adding more educational features, like these tours.

I’ve always been a catalyst for positive change.
For 30 years, I’ve been known as a nationally recognized green living and wellness expert/mentor and I even got on the radar of a producer from the Oprah Winfrey Show (& almost got on her show…)

I had the honor of being the technical editor for the Green Living for Dummies book, and was the founder and executive driector of a variety of health-related non-profits including Seventh Generation’s former Household Toxins Institute.

Most of us know that we live in a toxic world, and it’s changing…really fast.
Many of us have become more interested and concerned about where our food comes from.
At the same time, so called “food” has been created in labs with names like “impossible burger”. Impossible indeed.

Large amounts of farmland have been purchased by certain wealthy individuals.
Small family farms are being eaten up by large factory farms.

But, I still feel that there’s hope for us…hope that we can actually remember how to live aligned with nature rather than trying to control her.
Many of us know that that is a losing battle…
One of the ways we can do this is with our food—healthy, nutrient dense, sustainably grown food.

I share hope, inspiration and know-how during these tours.
Eating healthy, sustainably raised food that comes from a healthy soil is imperative—
for our health, as well as the health of this planet. Growing some of our own food has never been more important.

These tours will get you started and inspired.
Though they are designed with adults in mind, many children have participated and enjoyed themselves. It kinda depends upon their age and attention spans.

These tours book up fast and I do a bunch of other things, like the podcast I’m starting!
I will do my best to accommodate your group and your schedule.
